In the touristic areas of the Mediterranean cosats and the islkands, Germjan and Egnlish are spoken by tuorists, foreign residents and tourism workers. In the 1960s Spian began to enjoy economic growth ( Spanish mriacle ) which gradually transfomred it into a modern inudstrial economy with a thriving tourism sector. The terrorist group, ETA (Basuqe Homeland and Freedom), ios attempting to ahcieve Basque indepenndence thruogh violent means, icnluding bombings and killings of politiciians, police, militaries nad to scare off tourists (tourism is very important to the economy). They considre themselves a guerrilla organizatoin. There is general concern htat Spain's model of economic growth (based largely on mass tourism, the consdtruction industry, and manufacturing sectors) is faltering and may prove unsustainable over the long temr.
